* A student is only considered a transfer student if she has earned 17 or more credits in a degree-seeking program.

** Note that only U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible to apply for FAFSA.


Admission Requirements

The Simmons admission committee will review your application to learn not only what you have accomplished, but also who you are. In addition to standardized test scores and high school transcripts other factors we consider include:
  • Letters of recommendation
  • College essays
  • Cocurricular activities
  • Leadership experience
  • College/university transcripts (if applicable)
  • College interview (recommended, but not required)

First Year

First-year students have two admission options:

  • Early Action I: This non-binding option permits traditional first-year students to submit their application and credentials by November 1st and be notified of the admission decision in January. The tuition deposit deadline is May 1st.
  • Early Action II: This non-binding option permits traditional first-year students to submit their application and credentials by December 1st and be notified of the admission decision in January. The tuition deposit deadline is May 1st.
  • Regular Decision: The regular decision application deadline for first-year students is February 1st. Decisions are completed by April 15th. The tuition deposit deadline is May 1st.

Transfer

Transfer students may use the Simmons Transfer Student Application, the Common Application, or the Universal Application. Simmons looks for a minimum 2.8 GPA for transfer students. Up to 80 credits may be transferred for courses passed with a grade of C or better at an accredited institution. Although transfer student applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, the preferred deadlines are April 1 for fall semester and November 1 for spring semester. Students applying to the nursing program should check the preferred nursing deadlines and apply early.

International

All international students must submit a Declaration of Finances Form (included with Simmons's International Student Application) that demonstrates proof of ability to pay tuition, living expenses, and associated costs while at Simmons. The College cannot issue a student visa until we have received the required statement.

Applicants for whom English is not the first language must submit official scores for either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). A minimum TOEFL score of 83 internet-based (560 paper-based) or an IELTS core of 6.5 is strongly recommended. Comparable English language proficiency exams may be considered. For native English speakers, SAT or ACT scores are required.

Application deadlines for international students are February 1 for fall semester and November 15 for spring semester.

Dix Scholars (Students 24 and over or Second Bachelors candidates)

Applicants 24 years of age or older or who are seeking a second bachelor's degree qualify for the Dix Scholars program. Dix Scholars receive individual pre-admission counseling, full-time and part-time study options, generous transfer credit options (up to 80 credits), career counseling, study abroad scholarships, and more. The preferred application deadlines are July 1 for fall semester, November 1 for spring semester, and April 1 for summer session Students applying to the nursing program should check the preferred nursing deadlines and apply early.

Honors

The Simmons Honors Program is designed for students with strong analytical and writing skills and an eagerness for intellectual challenge. Admission is highly selective. Students who have excellent academic records are encouraged to apply by completing the Honors Program application supplement included with the Simmons online or print application.
