Peer Education

To request a Peer Education Program contact healtheducation@simmons.edu or call the Health Education office at 617-521-1001

Peer educators consist of a group of trained and experienced students who can visit your residence hall, group of friends or a student organization, upon request to teach a variety of health education programs. If you are an RA, RD or a group of students interested in scheduling a peer education program, or if you are interested in becoming a peer educator, please contact healtheducation@simmons.edu

The Body Project NEW!

The Body Project is a new peer education program and health campaign designed to help raise awareness about body image and self talk through thought provoking messages, college-wide events and activites, group discussions and educational programming. Together we hope to change the conversation from fat-talk to less fat-talk. The Body Project has several Hall programs. Feel free to request these to come to your Hall and your floor by contacting healtheducation@simmons.edu

Drugs and Alcohol @ Simmons

Drugs and Alcohol @ Simmons is designed to provide the most current information about drugs and alcohol, slang terms for drugs, effects and complications, risks of addiction and abuse, decision making, and how to help a friend that may be having a problem. Betsy's Friends @Simmons

Betsy's Friends is unique and special to the Simmons community. It is a peer education program designed to prevent and educate students about relationship violence. There are many workshops from which to choose:

  • How to promote a healthy relationship
  • Breaking up is hard to do
  • Positive strategies for communication
  • Limit setting and creating boundaries
  • Domestic and Interpersonal violence 101
  • LGBTQ: woman-to-woman violence

'Survivors Stories' is a 15 or 30 minute DVD presentation of a college party-rape scenario with a guided discussion. If you are interested in requesting this, please contact Healtheducation@Simmons.edu

EAT @ Simmons

EAT @ Simmons is an educational program designed for college-age women which focuses on the importance of healthy eating, recognizeing the signs of an eating issue, and working towards a more positive body image. There are many programs from which to choose, the EAT menu consists of:

  • Learning to make informed and healthy choices about eating
  • How to navigate Bartol Hall and The Fens Dining areas
  • Exercise, athletics and nutrition
  • Fad diets, eating, dieting and body image
  • Vegetarian and vegan nutrition
  • How to find resources and where to get help
  • Body Image

SEX@ Simmons

Sex @ Simmons is designed to provide information and methods to make informed and healthy choices about sex and intimate relationships; birth control, anatomy, STDs, HIV/AIDS, pregnancy, being street smart and how to party smart, handling peer pressure, communication, and exploring personal sexuality.

Sexual Assault Education@ Simmons

Sexual Assault Education@ Simmons is an educational program for students to help them understand what consent means and how it is defined, how to reduce their risk of assault, and in the event of an assault where to get help.

Managing Stress @ Simmons

Managing Stress @ Simmons is designed to explore personal stressors, signs and symptoms of stress, and helps to create positive coping strategies to implement on a daily basis. Relaxation exercises such as breathing techniques and imagery exercise will be taught and practiced. Each student will leave with a personal plan.

Managing Time @ Simmons

Managing Time @ Simmons is designed to help students create a personal time management plan that aids in balancing school, work, and social time. Students will create a to-do list and prioritize that list and learn to keep an accurate calendar.

Positive Strategies for Communication @ Simmons

Positive Strategies for Communication @ Simmons is designed to cover the basic concepts of communication that aid in developing healthy relationships. Active listening, verbal and non-verbal communication, understanding and articulating personal needs, and an opportunity for role playing will be incorporated into this upbeat and interactive program.

HIV/AIDS @simmons.edu

HIV/AIDS @ Simmons peer education group is responsible for offering programs to help understand HIV/AIDS and to offer college-wide events to educate the community. World AIDS day, annually on December 1 is part of the education.
