Preparing our students to build successful careers and lead meaningful lives has been Simmons's mission for over 100 years.
The Career Education Center supports this mission by providing career education for lifelong career development. We help undergraduate students, graduate students and alumnae/i develop the skills and knowledge to make informed decisions about their careers in preparation for life's work.
Our philosophy of career development is based on our 5 Step Career Development Model which guides our programs and work with all the Simmons populations we serve. Whether you are about to begin your undergraduate studies, have just graduated with a master's degree, or are an alum approaching a career or life transition, the Career Education Center can make a difference. We provide you with the following services:
Individual Career Coaching
The CEC's career development professionals have expertise in providing personalized career coaching. One-on-one meetings with the Career Education staff provides personal advice to help you address your career concerns, from discovering your strengths and interests to exploring career options, developing your resume, preparing to interview or negotiate, and much more. To set up an appointment with a CEC career coach see Make an Appointment.
Career Workshops and Programs
Workshops and career programs can provide valuable career information and help build job search skills. A broad range of topics can be addressed, from resumes and cover letters, to choosing a major, to creating a job search strategy, and much more. Many of these programs are delivered in the classroom, while others are delivered at the CEC or elsewhere on campus. Take advantage of these valuable opportunities to learn more and help boost your own career development. See the CEC Events calendar for upcoming programs. Faculty interested in requesting a workshop should visit here.
Career Fairs and Employer Recruiting Events
Throughout the year a variety of employers are invited on campus to recruit Simmons students for volunteer, internship, and full-time positions. Employers have an opportunity to present their organizations and discuss job openings at Information Sessions. You may also see employers at Information Tables in the Fens or MCB Lobby, providing information about their organizations and job openings. The CEC also produces or co-produces a number of career fairs throughout the academic year, some of which are targeted, such as those for graduate school students, and others of which are broader in scope, such as the annual Spring Career & Internship Fair, primarily for undergraduates. See the CEC Events Calendar for a listing of upcoming employer visits and on- and off-campus career fairs and related employer events.
CareerLink and CA$H Job & Internship Listings
The CEC maintains two online job boards, both searchable databases with listings posted specifically for Simmons students and alums: CareerLink and CA$H. CareerLink is the larger of the two and lists internships, full-time, part-time, and even some volunteer opportunities that are career-related. This is the place to look for undergrads to look for internships and FT jobs for those about to graduate and for alums. CA$H (Convenient Access to Student Hires) is a separate listing of on-campus and work-study jobs for students. It also includes some off-campus work-study opportunities as well as general campus employment opportunities (non work-study funded).
Career Resources at Beatley Library
The CEC collaborates with Beatley Library to develop and maintain a broad and deep set of resources on career topics. There is both a dedicated space for the print "Career Resources" collection, located near the main circulation desk in Beatley, and a rich array of online resources, accessible through a main Career Resources page but also via numerous individual links.
CEC Social Media
You can also keep up with the CEC by following us in a variety of social media sites, including our own Facebook and Twitter pages. Watch for regular updates on those pages throughout the year — and let us know what you think! We are also active participants in the Simmons Alumnae/i LinkedIn group, which any member of the Simmons community can join.
