The Beginning Teacher Center
For more information about Simmons's General Education partnerships and off-campus programs, visit the General Education website or call our Department of General Education at 617-521-2915.
Simmons teamed up with Teachers21 — a nonprofit educational consulting group that works to strengthen teacher quality — and launched the Beginning Teacher Center (BTC) in 1999. The BTC works to increase new teacher retention, improve teacher skills and confidence, and promote dialogue among school systems, state agencies, and colleges in order to ensure responsive training techniques. Today, the center offers courses and consulting, and it supports mentorship for new teachers in 170 communities throughout New England.
Starting in spring 2010, Simmons and BTC will offer an innovative, hands-on Master's in Math Education program specifically designed for currently practicing educators.
Westford Public Schools
In partnership with Westford Public Schools, Simmons offers a Master of Science in Advanced Pedagogy (M.S.Ed.) or a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (C.A.G.S.) specifically designed to address the needs of currently practicing educators. Our innovative curriculum includes courses such as Fair and Effective Classrooms, Diverse Learners, Achieving Mathematical Power, and Understanding Curriculum. The program runs in a cohort format, with weekday courses in the summer and weekend courses during the school year.
City on a Hill
Simmons has partnered with City on a Hill since 2006 to offer area public charter schools our MAT program with secondary license. The program runs on a cohort model and recruits every two years. Candidates must be employed at a Boston area public charter school. For more more information, contact Graduate Studies Admission at 617-521-2915.
