Don Basch's areas of specialty include business firm competition, government regulation of industry, and antitrust policy. His research has focused on a variety of competitive issues including the competitive consequences of banking deregulation, competition among states for tax revenue through the sale of alcoholic beverages, and the impact of student financial aid on the net prices collected by colleges in their competition for students. Along with teaching a variety of economics courses (principles, government regulation of industry, business competition and antitrust policy, intermediate microeconomics), Professor Basch supervises the department's vibrant internship program through which hundreds of Simmons economics majors have developed and applied economic analysis with some of the nation's most prestigious public institutions and private corporations.
