GSLIS Fellowships
GSLIS offers five Dean's Fellowships, all of which offer paid tuition and an assistantship for one year (three semesters) with the possibility of renewing at the end of the fellowship period. Dean's Fellows have the opportunity to work closely with faculty, staff, and students on a variety of projects. Expected availability is noted below. If you would like to be considered for a Fellowship, please contact and send a cover letter to Assistant Dean of Admission and Recruitment Sarah Petrakos at sarah.petrakos@simmons.edu. Candidates will be considered until the positions are filled.

Fellow for Dean's Initiatives

The Fellow for Dean's Initiatives provides administrative and organizational assistance on GSLIS initiatives,
international programs, special events, and alumni activities as well as coordinating related press releases
and announcements. This fellow works primarily with the dean and administrative manager, but has close
interaction with many staff members. It includes an internship at the Simmons library.
Dean's Fellow for Teaching Assistance

The Dean's Fellow for Teaching Assistance works with the Technology team in the under the supervision of the
Assistant Dean for Technology. The Fellow supports WebCT Vista 3 by working closely with the College's WebCT
office; designing course templates; and training faculty and staff on Vista functions. The Dean's Fellow also
develops lab software and hardware workshops for faculty, staff and students; supports Continuing Education
classes both in-person and online; and helps design and supports online courses. The Dean's Fellow works with
a variety of multimedia applications and basic productivity software in a multi-platform environment. The
Dean's Fellow works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students in instructional support with web
design and digital audio and video components. The Dean's Fellow is part of the Technology team, and is
expected to assume team goals and responsibilities.
Dean's Fellow for Technology Support

The Dean's Fellow for Teaching Assistance works with the Technology team in the Technology Lab under the
supervision of the Assistant Dean for Technology. The Dean's Fellow for Technology Support is the primary
support for the Assistant Manager of Technology in all aspects of workstation maintenance, server support,
and application installation. This position will also assist the Assistant Manager of Technology with
workshops relating to the Technology Orientation Requirement and other technical instruction as needed. The
Dean's Fellow is provided opportunities to develop and build upon technical skills in server and workstation
environments, project management skills, customer relations management, instructional skills, library process
management, and problem tracking and solving techniques. The Dean's Fellow is part of the Technology team,
and is expected to assume team goals and responsibilities.
Dean's Fellow for the GSLIS West Campus and Massachusetts Center for the Book
(MCB)

Under the Direction of the Associate Director for Access Services, and in consultation with the GSLIS Librarian and GSLIS West campus Director, this Fellow will support access to library resources and services for GSLIS West faculty and students.
Specific duties include providing reserve service for GSLIS West classes, providing in-person and online library instruction under the direction of the GSLIS Librarian, attending Advising Day for the September and January semesters, staffing Reference Services one three-hour shift per week, updating GSLIS West information on the Library website, and supporting the GSLIS West campus with additional services as needed.
For the MCB, under the direction of the Executive Director for the Massachusetts Center for the Book, duties will include on-going research to produce the annual Census of Books published by Massachusetts writers, web publishing ranging from adding content to creating presentations, researching and adding to a growing database of literary sites in Massachusetts, and supporting two annual literary events through volunteer coordination and logistical back-up.
Dean's Editorial Fellow

This fellow supports faculty editorial projects, in particular Library & Information Science Research. Duties include copyediting, proofreading, and other administrative functions pertaining to the publications. Other work includes supporting GSLIS publications with writing, copyediting, proofreading, and design. This fellow is supervised by the Director of Curriculum and Communications.
