QUAL: ALA-accredited MLS and/or MA degree in history or related discipline. Minimum of five years of professional archival experience and accomplishments, including two years of professional experience in a university archives program. An appointment to the rank of Librarian IV requires a minimum of eight years of professional experience and accomplishments.  Demonstrated contributions to advancing the work of the archival profession at the regional, national, and/or international level through published writings, conference presentations, professional organization committee/task force work, and/or workshop development and teaching.  Experience managing electronic records throughout the archival life cycle.  Records management experience.  Substantive knowledge of issues and challenges related to university records.  Knowledge of complex record keeping systems, especially those in use in academic environments.  Demonstrated customer service orientation.  Demonstrated ability to plan, manage, and coordinate complex projects.  Demonstrated ability to supervise staff in an archival setting.  Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.  Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues, administrators, staff, patrons, and donors.  Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in locations with dust.

Preferred:
Reference, arrangement and description, or collection development experience in an archival setting.  Experience in the development and management of grant-funded projects.  Experience implementing the Archivists' Tool Kit and using in daily operations.  Training in project management tools and techniques, such as Microsoft Sharepoint/Project.

DUTIES: This position facilitates access to collections and services of a complex, multi-faceted research/academic library through direct contact with library patrons and/or through the development of collections and their bibliographic identification. Contributes to improvements in the efficiency and effectiveness of the scholarly co1lections system. Develops, implements, and/or administers department/library policy and procedures which provides access to the Yale University Library collections and which allows for the cooperative exchange of resources between Yale and other Universities and information networks. Participates in and contributes to library long-term planning and is professionally active in library, scholarly and/or academic organizations. Represents the library and the University in the academic and professional community by serving on various committees and task forces. Manuscripts and Archives seeks an experienced and creative leader to direct the work of the University Archives and ensure effective acquisition, description, preservation, future migration, access to and security of university records acquired by the department. Reporting to the Senior Archivist for Digital Information Systems, the Head of the University Archives plays a leadership role in ensuring that the cultural and intellectual history of Yale remains vital to its community and serves as one of the repository's main points of contact with the Secretary of the University, General Counsel for the University, and the University's Vice President for Finance and Administration.

Carries out strategic planning for the University Archives.  Establishes and monitors policies and procedures for the day-to-day operations of the University Archives program, including accessioning, office of origin requests, and backlog processing.  Participates in University efforts to establish a records management program and defines the relationship between the proposed records management unit and the University Archives.  Integrates emerging library and web technologies into University Archives services.  Supervises the work of the records services archivist.  Supervises oral history programs and staff (2 FTE) related to the history of the University  Assists in research services functions of the department: provides reference service to researchers and Yale University offices in person, through mail, on-line, and over the telephone.  Participates in the formulation of department policy and procedures by assembling information and drafting policy and procedure memoranda, and by making recommendations on proposed policies and procedures.  Participates in library-wide planning and committee work as appropriate.  Engages actively with professional organizations and literature; keeps abreast of archival trends and developments.  May be required to assist with disaster recovery operations.


SALARY: Rank and competitive salary will be based upon the successful candidate's qualifications and experience (min:59,000). Full benefits package including pro-rated 22 vacation days; 18 holiday, recess and personal days; comprehensive health care; TIAA/CREF or Yale retirement plan; and relocation assistance.
Grade: 25. Schedule: 37.5 Hours, Monday - Friday 8:30-5:00
Weekend Hours: Occasional
