QUAL: MLS or MLIS; five years of public library experience, with at least three years in a supervisory role.  Proven leadership ability and problem solving skills; strong collection development and computer skills; excellent organizational abilities, excellent oral and written communication skills.  CORI background check required of finalists.

 

DUTIES: The Waltham Public Library seeks an imaginative, energetic, articulate librarian with a commitment to community service.  The Library serves 59,000 Waltham residents-and many non-residents with a two million dollar budget, a dedicated staff of nineteen full-time and forty part-time employees, a beautiful building and a collection of 200,000 items.   The Assistant Director works with the Director and Department Heads on planning, collection development, budgeting, and staff development and training.   The Assistant Director performs personnel administration functions in cooperation with the City Personnel Department and works with the Friends to develop and publicize cultural programming.  Develops outreach and marketing activities in a city with an increasingly diverse population.  Please see complete job description, benefits summary and long range plan at http://waltham.lib.ma.us/about .

QUAL:

Desired Minimum Qualifications include:
Bachelors' Degree required. Library experience preferred but not required. Candidate should have general knowledge of subjects relevant to adults and have the ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public and some supervisory skills. Flexibility required, must be able to work a varying schedule which may include some evenings and weekends.


 

DUTIES: The Dighton Public Library is seeking an energetic, positive person for the position of Assistant Librarian/Adult Services and Technical Services.

Responsibilities and skills required include:
Excellent oral & written communication. Attention to details. Considerable knowledge of computers and information technology. Ability to conduct formal and informal programs of instruction in internet and online information to the public. Responsible for updating library web site and developing electronic newsletter. Responsible for processing and cataloging all library materials. Provide information and reference to adults utilizing print, electronic and human resources. Works collaboratively with youth services and circulation to ensure excellent customer service. Create promotional materials. Must have the ability to work independently, receiving general instructions and minimum supervision after initial training.


SALARY:
Salary: $14.12 an hour, 35 hours per week including evenings and some Saturdays.

QUAL: A Master's in Library Science is required. Strong public service, reference, and computer skills required. Experience working with teens strongly desired.

 

DUTIES: We are looking for a forward-thinking, enthusiastic librarian who enjoys working with teens to be responsible for the young adult collection, teen programs, and interacting with teenagers in the Library. The position involves encouraging young adult reading through displays and readers' advisory services, acting as liaison with middle and high school teachers and librarians, and promoting library services to schools, teenagers, and parents.

As a key member of the Reference Staff, you will: provide reference assistance to patrons of all ages using print and online resources; participate in adult collection development and other professional tasks; troubleshoot and perform routine maintenance on library computers as needed; keep current with developing technology and Web 2.0 tools as they relate to reference and young adult services; and work closely with the Head of Reference. One evening a week and one Saturday a month required.


SALARY:
$20.90-24.29 per hour, depending on experience, with full town benefits package.  Half-Time (20 hours per week)

QUAL: ALA-accredited MLS degree, 3+ years of progressively responsible experience in professional library work, including three years of administrative and supervisory responsibility at a library strongly preferred; any equivalent combination of experience and education also considered.


DUTIES:
The Town of Southborough is seeking an energetic and committed Library Director (Head Librarian) due to the fact our current Director has chosen to return to her first love as children's librarian. The new Director will oversee all phases of library operations, including purchasing of materials, facility management, programming, staff supervision, long-range planning, maintenance oversight, and budgeting. Southborough is located in Worcester County, 25 miles west of Boston, and has a population of 9,500. The Library Director reports to a six-member Board of Library Trustees. As a member of the C/W MARS, the Library circulated 139,000 items to more than 77,000 patrons during FY'08. The Library has a staff of 5 full-time employees, including a children's librarian, and 5 part-time employees; an operating budget of $ $391,000, and is open 54 hours a week. The new Director will work with capable and enthusiastic staff and dedicated Friends to increase patronage through programming and holdings, and maintain both the Library's vital role in the community and its welcoming environment. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to create a culture that promotes positive change and collegiality. Applicants should possess a thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of library administration, state procurement laws, technology trends, financial and personnel management, and be comfortable interacting with town officials and volunteers.


SALARY:
Salary starts at $55,000.
