Temporary Part-time (no benefits), Reference Assistant for Nixon Peabody LLP

QUAL: M.L.S. candidate or recent graduate from ALA accredited program for part-time reference assistant position. Coursework related to special libraries sector (e.g., business, legal) or practical experience in a special library setting a plus. Candidates must possess excellent administrative, communication and interpersonal skills; strong customer service orientation; and ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Must be a self-starter who can work independently or as part of a team. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products; knowledge of Lexis, Westlaw, and PACER a plus; and knowledge of Sydney PLUS or other automated library system helpful.

DUTIES: Responsibilities

  • Provide quick reference assistance to attorneys and staff
  • Research companies and individuals
  • Retrieve cases, docket filings, public records, and agency filings
  • Perform bibliographic research and article retrieval
  • Update daily watches
  • Conduct offsite research as needed
  • Share shelving and collection maintenance duties
  • Back up Technical Services Assistant (serials check in, routing, interlibrary loans)
  • Assist with invoice processing

Taxonomy Consultant

QUAL: MA in Library Science preferred. Need experience in indexing, large-scale data management, and strong computer skills and interest.

DUTIES: Boston area consultant/contractor with taxonomy content classification skills to determine taxonomy categories, develop tagging process, and integrate into existing editorial process for research reports. Train staff.

Development Officer for Research, Combined Jewish Philanthropies

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of work experience in development research. Some legal and/or financial research may be a suitable substitute. MLS degree desirable.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to analyze biographical and financial information with attention to detail, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously to meet regularly shifting deadlines.
  • Strong skills in computer applications, including Word, Excel, and relational databases. Proficiency with Lexis Nexis for Development Professionals and various SEC documents.
  • Ability to interact well with others for the purpose of acquiring and sharing information.
  • Natural curiosity and resourcefulness as well as the ability to be a circular thinker: connecting links and possible connectors to people, special interests and various funding opportunities.
  • Discretion and ability to handle confidential information is essential, as is the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with the Boston area non-profit community and "name recognition ability" is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Using the Internet, on-line databases and printed resources, prepare confidential research reports for use by the president, development officers and volunteers.
  • Identify and screen various constituent groups
  • Prepare briefings for events and missions
  • Pro-actively identify & evaluate potential new prospects - data mining through internal & external databases. Present findings to development staff and participate in the prospect review process.
  • Monitor newspapers, journals and other sources to identify prospective/past donors and to keep abreast of business and philanthropic news using traditional methods as well as Push Technology
  • Participate in issues related to data entry and data retrieval of fundraising software
  • Participate in special projects to update and improve our data on our constituents
  • Design, produce and circulate a regular schedule of research and tracking reports
  • Keep abreast of new Development Research trends, tools & techniques

Knowledge & Content Management

QUAL: Strong IS skills including knowledge of InterAction and Intranet services key. 5+ years of related experience necessary, preferably in law firm. Bachelor's required, MLS or Knowledge Management graduate degree preferred. JD would be helpful but not required. Excellent management skills needed.

DUTIES: National firm with strong Boston office seeks professional for leadership role in Knowledge & Content Management group. Role helps oversee and improve firm's knowledge management initiatives and manage group staff.

SALARY: The pay range is pretty wide.124 to 170K, 15 midpoint.
