James R. Kelly is the humanities bibliographer in the Collection Development unit of the W.E.B. Du Bois Library at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Prior to that he worked as a cataloger of materials in all European languages at George Washington University, the University of Maryland College Park and the College of William and Mary and continues to catalog Slavic materials and rare books at Amherst College and the Massachusetts Center for Renaissance Studies. For 30 years he has been a field bibliographer for the Modern Language Association International Bibliography (for which publication he is now a senior bibliographer and section head) and for 20 years has been a contributor to the Modern Humanities Research Association's Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literature (for which he is American co-editor).
He serves as humanities co-editor of the Guide to Reference, is an adjunct faculty member in his University's German and Scandinavian Studies program and has taught in the Simmons College GSLIS program since 2002. Along with providing regular book reviews for the Papers of the Bibliographical Society of America, he and David William Foster are editors of Bibliography in Literature, Folklore, Language and Linguistics: Essays on the Status of the Field (2003).
