WISE Excellence in Online Teaching Awards

Adjunct Cynthia Correia and Senior Lecturer Ross Harvey have been awarded the WISE Excellence in Online Teaching Award Recipients for 2012. The awards were given at the ALISE conference in January, 2013.



GSLIS Alum Named ACRL Academic/Research Librarian of the Year

Patricia Iannuzi '82LS is the 2013 Academic/Research Librarian of the Year, named by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). The award, sponsored by YBP Library Services, recognizes an outstanding member of the library profession who has made a significant national or international contribution to academic or research librarianship and library development. Iannuzzi will receive the $5,000 award on April 10 during the ACRL 2013 conference in Indianapolis. For more information visit the ACRL website.

American Library Association President Maureen Sullivan Becomes Interim Dean of Simmons Graduate School of Library and Information Science

Maureen Sullivan, Interim GSLIS DeanSimmons Graduate School for Library and Information Science (GSLIS) is pleased to welcome American Library Association (ALA) president Maureen Sullivan as the new interim dean. Sullivan has been a professor of practice in the GSLIS doctoral program since 2006 and is the 2012-13 president of ALA; she began her tenure as interim dean on January 2, 2013.

"I look forward to building upon the achievements of Dean Michèle Cloonan at one of the nation's leading library and information science graduate schools," said Sullivan. As interim dean, Sullivan will be responsible for managing the school's budget, suggesting faculty appointments, recommending and implementing curriculum offerings, as well as assisting in the administration of the College's regulations, policies, and procedures.


Celebration for Michèle Cloonan

Friends and colleagues gathered on January 9 to celebrate Michèle Cloonan's ten years as Dean of GSLIS. During the program, speakers praised her generosity, her support of faculty and staff, and her unwavering dedication to GSLIS. Her efforts to expand GSLIS's influence in the international arena were particularly praised, especially her involvement in the training of Iraqi librarians and archivists and a partnership with South Korea's Yonsei University. During the celebration, it was announced that a fund Cloonan established to support international initiatives during her tenure as Dean would be renamed the Michèle V. GSLIS Alum appointed to IMLS

Simmons GSLIS alumna Maura Marx '04 was appointed Deputy Director for the Office of Library Services at the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
