"Students get to hear from people who have real day-to-day experience, and I think that opens them to another world. The CE courses can fill in some things that aren't comprehensively covered in the curriculum, such as Zotero or bookmaking. Everyone wants to learn something new, and they can also put it on their resumes."
Kris Liberman, MS Simmons GSLIS
CE program manager
Whether you're an LIS student or alum, a seasoned library or information professional, or a newly minted archivist, it's always a good time to update your skills and knowledge. The Simmons GSLIS Continuing Education program offers more than 70 workshops a year in several different formats: half-day or full-day workshops onsite at the Simmons GSLIS campuses, and fully asynchronous online workshops that run for a month.
Continuing education workshops are open to all, including practicing librarians/information professionals and current GSLIS students who wish to earn professional credits while they update their skills and knowledge. Current Simmons GSLIS students and Simmons GSLIS alumni qualify for special discounted rates.
Experienced Faculty & Engaging Topics
Our workshops are taught by experienced, well-known instructors — Simmons GSLIS faculty and adjuncts, Library Journal Movers & Shakers, authors, and practitioners — who all have practical expertise in the subjects they teach. Subjects range from technology and Web 2.0 to children's and teen services to information organization and reference. Past workshops include taxonomies, digital copyright, genealogy information services, grant writing, bookmaking, graphic novels, and marketing. We add new workshops and new instructors every term.
In addition to the scheduled workshops, we are happy to create customized solutions for an organization's continuing LIS education needs. We can run our standard workshops for a specific audience, customize any workshop, provide instructors who have a particular expertise, or create workshops specifically for your professional development needs. We work with all organizations, including professional, state, government, corporate, and public.
