Archivist and Records Manager, City of Newton, Mass.
Nancy Kougeas recently became the archivist and records manager for Newton, Massachusetts. After graduating from Simmons GSLIS, she worked primarily as a consulting archivist. Her clients included historical societies, municipalities and individuals. She has enjoyed working on projects as diverse as the papers of an 18th-century slave trading family and those related to the desegregation of the Boston public schools in the 1970s.
Kougeas grew up in Boston and received a bachelor's from the University of Massachusetts, a M.A.L.S. from Wesleyan University and a master's in library and information science from Simmons. She was the co-author of Falmouth (MA) Images of America and received a grant from the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities to research the voyages of a slave captain. She is teaching Managing Records in Electronic Environments (LIS 456).
