International Calling Cards
Calls to other countries from within the United States can be extremely expensive. One way to reduce costs is by using a calling card. To find the best cards for calling your home country, it's a good idea to do some research on the Internet (www.hellocollege.com is one good site) and to ask other people from your country for suggestions.
Internet Access
Internet-ready computers are available throughout the Simmons campus, including large clusters in the Beatley Library and the GSLIS Tech Lab. If you have not already set up your Simmons e-mail account, you can use the "web-only" computers located in the Main Campus Building.
There are relatively few Internet cafes in Boston. If you own a laptop, though, you can take advantage of the many restaurants and cafes throughout the city that offer wireless Internet access (some are free, some charge a fee).
Post Offices
If you want to mail a package, letter, or postcard, the U.S. Postal Service can take care of your needs. The main post office in Boston is located at 25 Dorchester Avenue, directly behind South Station, and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The closest post office to Simmons is in the Prudential Center at 800 Boylston Street. The Prudential post office is open 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturdays, closed on Sundays. Skype
The GSLIS Tech Lab has three Skype-enabled computers that students can use for long-distance calling. This independent service uses Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), allowing people to talk to other people with Skype accounts for free, or to place calls to a phone number at very low rates. Click here for a description of services and fees. Students need to set up a personal account at skype.com to take advantage of this service.
