Residence Campus Services

The Office of Residence Campus Services is located on the second floor of the Health Center on the Residence Campus. Staff is available to assist students regarding issues such as housekeeping or building maintenance concerns, MicroFridge rentals, vending and laundry services, and recycling. Copy and Mail Center and Residence Campus Mailroom

The Copy and Mail Center is located in the basement of the Main Campus Building, room E-002. The center provides mail services for faculty and staff and copy and faxing services for faculty, staff and students. The center is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Payment can be made by cash, check, Fenway Card, Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

A mailroom for resident students is located on the Residence Campus in the basement of Smith Hall, and is open during the academic year Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Hours may vary on holidays and during vacation periods. During the summer the Residence Campus Mailroom is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Please give your correspondents the complete address format above to ensure your mail is distributed efficiently. Mail sent to "Simmons College" with your name will not be delivered to the Residence Campus and will result in a delivery delay of 1-2 business days.

During all vacation periods and the semester break, student mail will not be forwarded to the student's home, but will continue to be available for distribution through the Residence Campus mailroom. During summer vacations, mail will be forwarded periodically if a forwarding address card is left with the mailroom. No mail will be held for students over the summer. Students are encouraged to notify all correspondents, magazines, and newspapers of address changes to avoid delays in receiving forwarded mail. Telephones

Each bedroom on the Residence Campus is equipped with two phone jacks but students will share one telephone number per room. Students must provide their own telephones, and must contact Technology upon their arrival in order to setup their landline. The College offers a specially designed long-distance plan for students, which can be found here: http://www.simmons.edu/technology/services/phone.php.. Residence Hall Internet Access

For resident students, Internet access is available via Ethernet or Wireless in all Residence Campus buildings. Students must provide their own computer with an installed and configured Ethernet card and cat 5 Ethernet cable. Computer use at Simmons College is governed by the Acceptable Use Policy and the Student Honor Code. Furniture

Each room contains one standard bed and mattress (72" x 36"), window blinds or shades, one chest of drawers, one desk, and one desk chair per occupant. Depending on the type of frame in the room, beds may be able to be bunked. If a student would like their bed to be bunked, they should place a work order with the Facilities Service Center online at. http://www.simmons.edu/offices/finance-administration/administrative/facilities-service-center/ or by calling 617-521-1000. Furnishings provided by the College for student rooms must remain in a student's room for the entire academic year, unless removed by the College. Lofts provided to students in triple rooms will be removed by the College upon de-tripling. Removal or damage will result in a charge to the student's account equal to the cost of replacement. In addition, no lounge or common area furniture belonging to Simmons College may be moved into individual student rooms. Damage to student rooms is billable to the student. Lofts, beds on cinder blocks, air conditioners, microwaves, space heaters, halogen lamps, irons, or other electrical or heating equipment for the preparation of food or beverage are not permitted in student rooms. The only cooking appliance permitted is a MicroFridge unit, which can be rented by calling 1-800-637-7567 (option 3) or visiting the MicroFridge website here: http://www.collegerefrigerators.com/. Students may bring their own mini fridge as long as it is no larger than 3.5 cubic feet and is energy star rated. In addition to College-provided furnishings, bookshelves, curtains, and rugs, all provided by the student, add warmth to the setting. Televisions, stereos, and posters also give color and life to the rooms. Each student has a different tolerance for noise, and earphones are therefore recommended when using stereos and televisions. If earphones are not used, low volume is required (please refer to the "Quiet Hours Policy").

Common Areas

There is a kitchenette available in each hall, for student use, supplied with a stove, microwave oven, and refrigerator. Students are required to clean up after using this facility. Kitchenettes may be closed to students if clean up is not done sufficiently and in a timely manner. The College housekeeping staff cleans bathrooms and other public areas. However, students are responsible for cleaning any area that is unreasonably dirty, above and beyond "normal wear and tear." Students are also responsible for the cleaning of their own rooms.

Televisions and DVD players are available in each hall and may be used while observing quiet hours. Residence life staff should be consulted for DVD operating procedures. Vending machines and laundry machines are available in each hall. Questions about the machines may be directed to the Office of Residence Life, located on the second floor of the Health Center. Refunds may also be obtained by visiting the Office of Residence Life during business hours.

Building Maintenance & Housekeeping

The College's housekeeping staff cleans bathrooms and common areas on a daily basis. Students are responsible for cleaning their own rooms and providing their own cleaning supplies.

Routine maintenance problems should be reported to the Facilities Service Center immediately by submitting a work request form at facilities.simmons.edu Students should contact Public Safety if they become aware of a maintenance issue that is dangerous or constitutes an emergency. Linens and Wastebaskets

Students must furnish the following items: pillows, sheets, pillowcases, towels, blankets, and wastebaskets.

Hall Access

Students are required to carry their Simmons ID card and keys at all times in order to gain access to the campus and their rooms. Students who are locked out of their room may gain access by calling the Office of Residence Life between the hours of 8:30am-4:30pm at 617-521-1096 and Public Safety at 617-521-1112 after those hours. There is a fee payable to obtain lock out service between 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. and on weekends and holidays. Failure to pay the fee may result in disciplinary action or loss of lockout privileges. Any keys to residence hall rooms that are lost during the academic year will result in a lock change. For individual and community safety, all lost Simmons ID cards and keys should be reported immediately to a residence life staff member. The cost of a lock change, inclusive of new room key(s) is $50.

Storage

There is no storage available for student belongings. The College will invite a storage company to campus to assist with mailing belongings home, and storing students' personal belongings in their bonded facilities for the summer. Information will be made available to students prior to the end of the academic year.

Bicycles

Simmons is located in a perfect area for bike riding; therefore, bike racks are provided in the 'bike park' located next to Bartol Hall. An additional bike storage unit has been made available in the patio between Alumnae Hall and the Holmes Sports Center. Bikes may not be left in hallways, lounges, or other public places because they create a fire hazard; bikes left in unauthorized places will be considered abandoned and turned over to Public Safety. Bikes may not be locked to handrails or fences, or gates on the Residence Campus. Storing bikes in student rooms during the academic year is discouraged, and must be agreed upon by both roommates. Heavy-duty "U-locks" are recommended for securing all bicycles. Hubway bicycles are available for rent at many locations near both of the Simmons campuses. Items Left Behind

The College is not responsible for any personal items left by students anywhere in the residence halls over the summer. Items left in closets, rooms, stairwells, trunk rooms, and basement areas will be discarded at the conclusion of the academic year move out period in May.

Trunks

Trunks, bags, and packages sent to the College must be prepaid and shipped to arrive after the student checks into their residence hall. Due to limited storage space, the College will not accept any packages for students prior to their arrival on campus. The College does not provide assistance in delivery of packages from the mail area to a student's room. All items should be addressed as follows:
