Legacy of Leadership

Legacy of Leadership

Since opening its doors in 1902, Simmons College has provided an innovative model of higher education for women that combines a grounding in the liberal arts with training for the professions. Founder John Simmons established the Simmons Female College to "enable scholars to acquire an independent livelihood." Each of the presidents of Simmons College— Henry Lefavour, Bancroft Beatley, William Park, William Holmes, Jean Dowdall, Daniel Cheever, and Susan Scrimshaw —has embraced and reinterpreted Simmons's vision to meet the needs of a changing society and successive generations of Simmons students.

The College Archives is pleased to present this retrospective on Simmons College's legacy of leadership.
