Simmons Undergraduate Research Experience Fellows - Deadline Extended To October 17
Proposal guidelines for the Simmons Undergraduate Research Experience Fellows (SURE) Program can be found here. Faculty can apply for a research fellow and/or to fund a student's participation in a conference. SURE Fellows conducting research or working on a creative project for a faculty member will receive an $1,800 stipend for the semester. Examples of possible projects include--developing a bibliography for research/aiding with a literature review, providing support for developing new courses, helping create an exhibit/display, working on video projects, and analyzing data
Students are also encouraged to apply to fund their own independent research/creative project and/or to attend a conference, but only with proof of a faculty sponsor. They can request up to $500 for each. The deadline for fall applications has been extended to October 17, 2012. Please submit applications to cas@simmons.edu. Please be sure to announce this in all of your classes.
I am very pleased that we are able to launch this program and look forward to the many ways we can continue to embrace undergraduate students' scholarship and creative projects.

Press for the New England Philharmonic
The New England Philharmonic serves as the orchestra in residence at Simmons College and is sponsored by CAS. On March 3rd they performed Benjamin Britten's "War Requiem" in Boston at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross and on March 4th they performed in Providence at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul. This work--for orchestra, choruses, and soloists--is an eloquent meditation on the sacrifices of war and the universal longing for peace. Collaborating in the performance were Chorus pro Musica, the Providence Singers, and the Boston Children's Chorus, with soloists Sarah Pelletier, Frank Kelley, and Sumner Thompson.
Both performances were reviewed very positively:
