The Simmons College Police Department takes a proactive approach to crime prevention. Our officers build relationships with the people who live and work on campus. The Simmons Police Department has worked to increase the visibility and accessibility of our officers, which helps prevent criminal activity. Our officers are well integrated into the campus life; they are able to identify some of the problems and concerns before they become crises.
The Simmons College Police Department takes pride in creating a safe campus. We achieve this by maintaining a very well-lit campus, placing emergency call boxes on all residence halls and other places around the campus, and placing security cameras throughout the Academic Campus and the Residence Campus.
Crime prevention is the anticipation, recognition, and appraisal of a crime risk and the initiation of some action to remove or reduce it.
The Public Safety Department conducts Safety and Security meetings throughout the year for the benefit of students, faculty, and staff. All resident students are required to attend a meeting in their residence hall at the beginning of each school year. Topics include; fire safety, sexual assault awareness, personal safety, and incident reporting. Members of Public Safety often present these programs as well as conduct safety and security presentations for groups such as the Staff Council, the Commuter Student Organization, graduate student groups, and any other Simmons College affiliated groups upon request. Please contact Public Safety at extension 1112 if you would like to arrange a presentation for your group.
