Center for Excellence in Teaching

The Center for Excellence in Teaching is a key initiative in Simmons' Strategy 2015. The Center supports the implementation of teaching innovations and best practices, fosters the scholarship of teaching and learning, enables and promotes collaboration across campus, and provides a supportive environment for growth, experimentation and reflection. The core objectives of the Center are:

  • Provide pedagogical support for all members of the teaching community;
  • Promote the effective use of technology in teaching;
  • Foster and share teaching innovation;
  • Support the scholarship of teaching and learning;
  • Assist with reflection and self-evaluation as it relates to teaching;
  • Support and assist in the use of best practices in teaching;
  • Develop and maintain resources to advance teaching skills and expertise.

Center for Gender in Organizations

The Center for Gender in Organizations (CGO) is helping to shift how decision-makers think and act in terms of gender equity, diversity and organizational effectiveness. Our research demonstrates that gender equity and diversity greatly improve work practice and businesses benefit when they view gender equity as a strategic imperative and a source of competitive advantage. It is this vital link between gender equity and productivity that forms the cornerstone of CGO's work.

Center for the Study of Children's Literature

A hallmark of the Center for the Study of Children's Literature is the Summer Institute held every other year. The intensive long weekend program offers students an opportunity to meet with authors, illustrators, editors, and others committed to the study of children's literature.

Simmons Institute for Leadership and Change

The Simmons Institute for Leadership and Change (SILC) sponsors programs, activities, and resources that help initiate social change for women, raise women's issues to the state and national political level, and reach out to audiences diverse in age, class, sexual orientation, culture, and educational background. SILC-sponsored projects take place on the Simmons College campus and in the Greater Boston community, including conferences, lecture and discussion series, special events, and networking opportunities.

Zora Neale Hurston Literary Center

The Zora Neale Hurston Literary Center at Simmons College provides an inclusive forum for contemporary poets, playwrights, and writers who represent diverse cultural perspectives. Drawing inspiration from the life and work of Zora Neale Hurston — an outstanding novelist, skilled folklorist, playwright, journalist, and critic who was the most prolific black woman writer in America during the first half of the 20th century — the Center works to cultivate literary awareness and cultural diversity at Simmons and in communities throughout the Boston area. We offer an ongoing calendar of author readings and literary events that are open to the general public.
