Former Simmons College Basketball Standout Inducted into Simmons Athletics Hall of Fame

BOSTON (June 6, 2012) — Former Simmons College basketball standout Kristen Roberts was recently inducted into the Simmons Athletics Hall of Fame during the annual "Evening of Champions" hosted by the Simmons College Department of Athletics May 8. The event gathers student athletes and other members of the Simmons community to be honored for exceptional contributions to the College and athletic and academic achievements.

Roberts, a member of the class of 2001, made an impact as soon as she joined the Simmons Basketball team in 1997 as a freshman. A four-year starter and two-year captain, Roberts played in 75 games during her Simmons career and amassed 753 points, placing her eighth on the program's all-time points list. She averaged 10 points per game during her career and is fourth on the Sharks all-time career rebounds list with 460 rebounds to her credit. Roberts is second on the list for all-time points scored in a single game; she scored 33 points in a 2000 game against Curry College. In addition, she holds the Simmons record for most free throws in a single game.

Roberts also was successful in the classroom. She received the Simmons Student-Athlete of the Year award during her college career for her outstanding achievement in the classroom and on the court. She went on to graduate cum laude with a double major in economics and mathematics. Roberts returned to Simmons to earn a master of arts in teaching in 2002.

Roberts worked as the assistant coach for the Simmons basketball team from 2001-2006, and she has worked at Wellesley High School as a mathematics teacher for the last 10 years. In 2008, she attended the Educator Leadership Institute and is now licensed to be a principal or assistant principal for grades 9-12.

Roberts continues to demonstrate all of the qualities Simmons values in student-athletes. The Simmons community is pleased to welcome her to the Athletics Alumnae Hall of Fame.
