Admission Requirements, Fees & Deadlines
The School of Nursing and Health Sciences (SNHS) attracts men and women who believe that access to health care is a basic human right and that delivering effective health care services requires an understanding of the whole person — and whole communities. Many of our students already work as health care professionals. Approximately half are career changers looking for more meaning in life. Their knowledge and interdisciplinary expertise adds depth to our programs.

Application Requirements and Deadlines
The School of Nursing and Health Sciences uses an electronic application system. Carefully check the application deadline dates for all SNHS programs as they are different. Additionally, certain programs offer entry only to certain times of the year. The application deadline is 4:30 p.m. EST on the designated date for each program with the exception of the Dietetic Internship (DI)program(see the DI section on this web site for specific details). ALL application materials,both electronic and paper,must be received on the specified deadline to be considered on time and complete. Only such applications will be considered for merit awards. There is no guarantee that late and or incomplete applications will be reviewed. All submitted documents become the property of Simmons College and cannot be returned.
Check the individual program sections of this web site for application information. However, you can start the application process now by requesting that official transcripts be sent to our office since these documents cannot be received electronically. If the application deadline is not more than six months away,you may also ask your references to start the recommendation process now. Recommendations must be written and dated no more than six months prior to the application deadline for any program. Please see the link to the recommendation forms in the "Apply" section of your program of interest. Carefully follow the instructions for the recommendation process.
Please know that we cannot accept Committee Recommendations(one letter which includes a series of paragraphs from individual faculty members or a series of faculty letters) or letters of reference on file in a Career Education or Career Resource Center.
Application Fee Waivers
You may be eligible for an application fee waiver. Please view the list in the link below to determine if you qualify. Then,contact the Office of Admission(617-521-2605 or email@example.com) to obtain the appropriate code to enter into your electronic application.

Academic Records: Transcripts
Official transcripts for all courses completed (undergraduate and graduate) at regionally accredited U.S.post-secondary institutions,whether or not a degree was awarded or regardless of when the courses were taken or if the courses are specific to the SNHS program you are applying to are required. This requirement includes courses which appear on another transcript as transfer or study abroad credit. If you attended a study abroad program and a separate transcript exists, send that as well. Educational documents should clearly indicate the degree and date awarded. Such transcripts must be received in signed/sealed envelopes. Photocopies or copies "issued to student" are not acceptable.
If you earned a degree abroad, academic records must include end of year marks sheets for each year of attendance, not just final exam results or a copy of the degree. Educational documents should clearly indicate the degree and date awarded. Overseas post-secondary institutions must be recognized by the Ministry of Education in the home country. Academic records in the native language and an official English translation (if needed) are required. English translations must be provided by someone other than the applicant, family member or friend.
It may also be necessary for the applicant to submit an interpretation by a foreign credential services agency. Interpretations of foreign credentials by an evaluation service do not replace official academic records. These evaluations are assessments of the curriculum and are not accepted in lieu of official academic documents. Contact our office at 617-521-2605 to determine if this is needed. When you call, please be prepared to provide the name of the institution and country where the degree was earned.
For applicants who have taken courses in the U.S. or earned a degree in the U.S., request an unofficial copy of your transcript(s) so that you can refer to it/them when completing the required GPA calculations in the application. If you receive officially signed/sealed envelopes from an institution, do not open them before submitting as this will render the transcript as unofficial.
Depending on the SNHS graduate program you are applying to,the recommendation procedure is a
two-or three-part process. All recommendations should be written on official preprinted letterhead stationery and include an original inked signature. Computer-generated stationery is not acceptable. All forms and recommendations should include original inked signatures. No emails, faxes or photocopies of these materials can be accepted. Recommendations should be written/dated within six months prior to the application deadline.
You are applying to a professional graduate program,so please select your references wisely.We cannot accept recommendations from family members,friends.coaches,co-workers(people you worked with in the same department or unit within an organization), people for whom you provided childcare or politicians since we need evaluations from individuals who can assess your academic ability to engage in graduate studies.

Since there are six admission offices at Simmons, it is critical that you ask others to address and send materials to our office, not simply Admission Office, Simmons College, as your important information could remain in the wrong office for some time, rendering your application late.

International students requiring a student visa (F-1) to study in the U.S. cannot enroll in non-degree courses nor can be admitted provisionally pending completion of admission prerequisites due to immigration regulations. International students may apply only for September entry, except for the D.P.T. (Doctorate in Physical Therapy) program which begins in late June each year.

Admission options and prerequisites vary for each program within SNHS. With the exception of the R.N.-M.S. option, all programs require a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution in the U.S. or a post-secondary institution abroad recognized by the country's Ministry of Education.
Important: D.P.T. applicants are ineligible to apply if they have taken two prerequisite courses two or more times,regardless of grades earned or if a repeated course was titled differently or taken at a different institution. If course content is the same and courses are repeated, the two course rule applies.
All prerequisites must have been completed within ten years prior to the application deadline for all programs except for the D.N.P. program which requires completion of statistics within five years prior to the application deadline. All prerequisites courses must have grades; pass/fail or audit courses, AP (Advanced Placement), IB or CLEP scores do not fulfil prerequisites.
It is critical that you make sure that courses you plan to take or have taken meet our content requirements.
SNHS only considers courses completed at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university or at a post-secondary institution abroad that is recognized by the Ministry of Education in the home country.
To determine if a course has been approved, please call the Office of Admission at 617-521-2650 and provide the name and number of the course,where it was offered and when. We will tell you if it is acceptable. If not, we will need a course syllabus. If we need to review a syllabus, please allow 15 business days for an evaluation. Please do not call us for review/approval the day before you register for a class as we will not be able to evaluate a course on such short notice.
Carefully review the Course Syllabus Data and the Prerequisite Review Process forms below about this process and submit the required information if needed. It is likely you that you will not need to submit syllabi for all courses.
To determine if courses meet the prerequisite requirements for graduate nutrition programs, call the Nutrition Department at 617-521-2718.
To determine if courses meet the prerequisite requirements for the DPT program, call the Office of Admission at 617-521-2605, providing the name/number of the course and when/where it was taken.
To determine if courses meet the prerequisite requirement for the DE Nursing program, call the Office of Admission at 617-521-2605. However, please note the following before you call:
No pre-approval is needed for DE nursing in the following cases:
Any two chemistry courses (with labs), whatever the course number/name or if taken at more than one institution
Any course with Microbiology (with a lab) in the title
Any course with statistics in the title
One separate semester/term of human anatomy and one separate semester/term (sometimes 3 quarters are needed) of human physiology at one or more institutions
AP(Anatomy & Physiology) I & II (with lab) at the same institution.
All courses must have been taken at regionally accredited U.S. colleges or universities.
Pre-approval via submission of a syllabus is always needed for DE nursing in the following cases:
All online prerequisite courses (provide the online syllabus for both the course and lab, not the on-site syllabus)
All accelerated courses
A/P I & II taken at more than one institution
Application fees are non-refundable. For Application Fee Waiver information, download the Fee Waiver List at the top of the page.
All application fees or appropriate fee waiver codes must accompany the application at the time of submission. No application can be processed without an application fee or fee waiver code. Check the list of fee waiver options on our website to determine your eligibility. Call the Office of Admission at 617-521-2605 to obtain the application fee waiver code to include in your online application.
D.P.T. applicants must send official transcripts to PTCAS. However, if a student is admitted to our D.P.T. program,deposits and enrolls,we must receive a separate set of all official transcripts to assure enrollment as PTCAS does not send transcripts to schools. Although PTCAS can accept electronic test scores, SNHS is unable to, thus official paper score reports must be sent to SNHS. Additionally, for D.P.T. applicants, all foreign transcripts must be sent directly to SNHS.
Standardized Test Scores
Only the D.P.T. program requires the GRE. PTCAS can accept electronic scores of the GRE but SNHS cannot. Thus, you should submit scores to PTCAS and request that the Educational Testing Service (ETS) also send paper copies of score reports to SNHS. It takes 4-6 weeks for us to receive official scores.
GRE scores must have been taken within five years prior to the application deadline. Student score reports are not considered official and cannot be accepted.
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is required of all applicants to all SNHS programs whose first language is not English: this requirement is based upon native language not citizenship. TOEFL does not replace GRE for the D.P.T. program: both exams are required. No other English proficiency exam is accepted and student score reports are not acceptable. TOEFL is not required if a student has earned either a bachelor's or master's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. post-secondary institution or at a post-secondary institution recognized by the Ministry of Education in English-speaking countries only. SNHS cannot accept electronic scores. Allow 4-6 weeks for us to receive official scores.

SNHS maintains articulation agreements with various regionally accredited U.S. undergraduate colleges and universities to facilitate the admission and acceleration of qualified students at specific institutions to certain SNHS graduate programs. These institutions are listed in the applications for designated programs. Call the Office of Admission of the School of Health Sciences to determine which schools are included in these special arrangements.(617-521-2605).
All admission decisions are mailed after the established application deadline date. Mailings of decision letters are different for each program but are not done on a rolling notification basis, rather as a group.
No admission decisions are emailed, faxed or provided via telephone.
The enrollment deposits must be received by the date designated in the letter of admission.Official transcripts verifying proof of completion of all prerequisites and receipt of a bachelor's or master's degree will be required before enrollment in any program.
Accepted students may obtain a deferral of enrollment, if accepted. Deferrals can be granted up to a maximum of one year (two academic seamsters) providing that the student does not take courses elsewhere in the interim. Admission was offered based on the academic records at the time of application and is not open-ended. If you know at the time of application that you will defer to a year beyond the application year, do not apply, rather apply to the year that you wish to start the program so that another student can have a place.
Applications and requirements can change each year. If you were offered a scholarship and you defer your enrollment to a future term, the scholarship does not automatically carry forward. You will be re-considered with the new applicant pool. Such awards are competitive and limited.
Accepted students wishing to defer must write a letter to the Assistant Dean/Director of Admission requesting such an extension and indicate what semester they wish to begin their program and what they will be doing in the interim. The non-refundable enrollment deposit is required by the deadline indicated in the original acceptance letter to hold a place for the year of intended enrollment. Deferrals will not be considered after the original deposit due date nor after a semester has begun. International student deferrals are considered on an individual basis,due to immigration policies.
If a student has been accepted to a program, deposits and enrolls in a class (or classes) and wishes to leave the College and return at a later date, a student must request/obtain a Leave of Absence (LOA) from the appropriate chair and Dean of SNHS.
If a student wishes to re-apply to SNHS, he/she must contact the Office of Admission at the School of Health Sciences at 617-521-2605 to learn about the process.Students interested in re-applying to the D.P.T. program must re-apply directly to PTCAS.

Admission and Evaluation Process
Faculty admission committees carefully review and evaluate all SNHS applications. The minimum academic requirement: 3.0 prerequisite G.P.A. and 3.0 accumulative G.P.A. in undergraduate or graduate study. Repeated courses (even those with different titles but same course content) must be included in the G.P.A.calculations.
In addition to academic factors, other aspects are important in the review process: paid or volunteer experience in the healthcare setting,outside interests,writing ability,potential for leadership and academic and employment recommendations. Remember that you are applying to a professional school ,therefore, carefully follow directions and chose your references wisely.
