Dual Degree (with Harvard School of Public Health) MS Nursing Application: Nursing and Overall GPA Calculation

An important consideration in the application evaluation process is your grade point average (GPA) in nursing courses as well as your undergraduate and graduate (if applicable) GPAs. Your careful completion of this section is very important. Failure to do so will significantly impede the processing of your application. When you submit your application, if this GPA calculation form is not complete you will be required to submit the form again. You will find it helpful to request unofficial copies of your transcripts in order to complete the GPA calculations. Refer to the Grading Scale table located in the application and on the SNHS website under the Apply section for this program.

Please note that courses should be reported in semester hours. If your courses were taken in a quarter hour system, it is assumed that the conversion factor is .75, i.e., one quarter hour equals .75 of a semester hour. Three quarters may be required to meet the two semester requirement, usually six credits. The number of required quarter terms may depend on the course content and length. For example, a course worth 4 quarter hours equals 3 semester hours (4 x .75 = 3). Courses that are accelerated or offered online may not meet the prerequisite requirement. Semester courses are typically a minimum of 42 hours of class time. Some institutions use a unit system where one unit equals 4 semester hours. Institutions also vary in the number of quality points awarded per grade so check your transcript. If a course has not been completed, please do not include it in the GPA table. Instead, please list it under the "Current/Future Enrollment" section found in the Academics tab of the application.

If you have any trouble completing this form, please contact us at 617-521-2605 or snhs@simmons.edu for assistance. Your application cannot be considered until this form is completed and submitted.

Please note that in order to add a new line you must enter information into the first row and then press the tab/enter key (depending on the browser you use) on your keyboard. A new row will be added each time you press tab/enter through the subsequent cells.

Include all repeated and failed courses in the GPA. Pass/fail or audit courses, AP (Advanced Placement), IB or CLEP scores are not acceptable in place of grades. Do not include science courses in the nursing GPA. Total quality points are obtained by multiplying the number of credits by the quality point per grade. The GPA is obtained by dividing the sum of total quality points by the sum of total credits.

Include only courses designated as nursing, not science courses that were required for your nursing degree. Include all repeated or failed courses (even if the course title was different at another institution) in the GPA calculation. If a course has not been completed, please do not include it in the GPA table. Instead, please list it under the "Current/Future Enrollment" section found in the Academics tab of the application. Also, do not include any courses taken as pass/fail as your GPA will be negatively impacted.
