Simmons School of Management's New Green Home

Since 1973, our school has pursued a unique mission of educating women for powerful and principled leadership. Now we're poised to fulfill that mission more successfully than ever, in a modern, "green", professional setting that reflects who we are — today.

A Model of "Green" Design

Our new home will be a striking, five-story building of tan brick, limestone, and glass. And it will be a "green" building — a model of sustainable design.

Benefits of Sustainable Design:

  • Reduces the consumption of non-renewable resources
  • Minimizes waste
  • Creates healthy, productive environments

To promote responsible corporate citizenship, we're seeking "Silver" certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED Green Building Rating SystemTM is the nationally accepted standard.

The Green Building Will:

  • Consume at least 30% less water and 20% less energy than traditional buildings of this size
  • Maximize the use of recycled and locally supplied materials
  • Minimize air conditioning needs by using high-value insulation, advanced systems, and a heat-reflecting landscaped roof plaza
  • Use drought-resistant landscaping to reduce water usage

Benefits for Students and Faculty

The new SOM building will add value to the learning and teaching experiences of today's students and faculty in ways they'll appreciate.

  • A mix of traditional and tiered "case" classrooms will have the technology essential to today's teaching and learning styles.
  • Students will gain proximity to an excellent library and other academic services, as well as on-site parking.
  • The variety of comfortable work spaces — private offices, open meeting areas, team-study rooms — will invite faculty and students to roam and collaborate.
  • Executive Education clients will appreciate our elegant, sophisticated meeting and dining facilities — and enjoy their own entrance.
  • The on-campus location will increase opportunities for graduate and undergraduate integration.
  • The new location will promote collaboration with other Simmons schools and programs.
  • United under one roof, faculty will have more opportunities to interact spontaneously.
