Clubs & Organizations
SOM women are entrepreneurs by nature. Many develop and participate in student clubs and initiatives that serve their intellectual, social, and career needs. For more information about any of these clubs, contact Carolyn Bogle or Paula Donaldson.
Here are some of our current student organizations:
Simmons Consulting Group
The mission of the Consulting Club is to provide career exploration in the field of consulting. Whether your interests are in a specific field of consulting or you are just exploring the consulting industry, our events will help bring you closer to determining your career objectives.
Entrepreneurship Club
Are you interested in starting and growing a new business or expanding a current business? The Entrepreneurship Club will:
- Provide an environment to exchange ideas and gather support for new ventures
- Sponsor outreach and community-based programs to further develop and formulate new businesses
- Create opportunities to access area women business entrepreneurs and leaders
Entrepreneurship is more than a set of tools and techniques for starting and growing a business. It's a mindset, a way of looking at things that is opportunity focused and creative. It's about passion--doing what you love. It's about creating wealth in all its forms: money, independence, power, and innovation. It's about challenge and persistence. And it's about creativity and writing new execution strategies for the way things are done. Find out more about the entrepreneurship initiatives at Simmons here.
Ethics Club
The mission of the Ethics Club is to serve as a learning resource to Simmons MBA students for a wide range of business ethics issues. The club will examine how ethical decisions impact business successes or failures. Areas of interest include sustainability, economic, social and environmental concerns; corporate accountability; ethical decision making; socially responsible investing; and social enterprise. The assumption is that ethical issues are complex business dilemmas for which better decisions can be found through ongoing discussion.
Finance/Investment Club
The focus of this group is to learn more about the topics of finance and personal investing, build on the knowledge learned in the classroom and network with other students working in or pursuing a career in finance.
Latina Club
The SOM Latina Club was established to learn about business opportunities in the workplace, develop management skills, learn how bilingualism and biculturalism can be used to advance their careers, and network with other area Latino groups. In existence since April 2004, the group has already sponsored several speakers who have shared their experiences about being Hispanic in today’s workplace and explain how to apply lessons learned upon entering that workplace. Future events will focus on ways the group can establish connections with area Hispanic businesses and organizations interested in hiring Latinas, and on career development strategies and employment services, as well as on how to create a marketing strategy to position the club within the local Hispanic business marketplace. Although the focus is on the Latina experience, the club is open to all students currently enrolled in the SOM.
Net Impact
Net Impact at Simmons School of Management explores the power of socially responsible business to create a better world, and to achieve commercial success through approaches that respect ethical values, people, communities and the environment. Net Impact helps members broaden their business education, build their networks, refine their leadership skills, and pursue their professional goals.
Project Management Club
It has been said that you lead people and manage projects. While that's an ongoing OB debate, take a step toward understanding project management and share your experiences with others by participating in a student group dedicated to project management.
Student Academic Council
The Student Academic Council (SAC) is volunteer group that serves an advisory role to the MBA office. The SAC mission is to enhance students’ educational experience inside and outside of the classroom and further the MBA office goal of continuous improvement to the MBA program. Some of SAC roles include: representing students’ interests within the SOM community on current or proposed changes to the MBA program; and serving as a liaison between students, faculty, the administration, and the alumnae.
Social Club
The Social Club is a group of students from both the day and evening programs that help plan social events for students throughout the year.
