Hospitals and Health Centers
In the last decade, many hospitals and many health centers have established domestic violence programs or hired domestic violence advocates. Those in the Boston area are listed on the resource lists above. Outside of the Boston area, you should consult your local DV service to learn about local health center and hospital services. These programs typically offer safety planning, individual and group support, and information and referrals. They also train medical personnel on how to safely and effectively intervene with survivors.
Survivors can access these programs by contacting a hospital or health center and asking to be connected to the domestic violence services.
The programs are usually free and confidential. Participation in the program does not usually appear in the survivor's medical record, although it is recommended that the survivor ask about this to be sure.
