Assistant Director, Council on Aging

Job Description

The Assistant Director of the Council on Aging supports the day-to-day operations of the Senior Community Center and works closely with the staff to identify service needs, and implement annual goals and objectives.  The incumbent provides administrative support to the director in the areas such as office management, computer software and database applications, grants management, program supervision and development, special event planning and community outreach among other duties as assigned.   


  • Manages daily operations, staff and programs and as delegated by the Director.
  • Spearheads planning for special events and new initiatives in collaboration with staff.
  • Leads or co-leads short term support groups for identified populations.
  • Meets with senior participants and/or community members to resolve problems as they arise.
  • Prepares grant applications, and writes reports and monitors requirements for grants as delegated by Director.
  • Provides coverage for programs and services in the absence of designated staff.
  • Organizes staff development and training programs to meet identified needs.
  • Oversees operations in the absence of the Director.
  • Manages internal computer systems and develops staff competency in computer software applications and database management.
  • Represents the Council on Aging in the community.
  • Attends Council on Aging Board of Directors meetings as requested.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned by Director.

Position Description:
The Coordinator of Resident Advancement is a documentation intensive role that focuses on the personal development of the residents of The Ledges. This is achieved through the research and writing of plans and assessments (i.e. Individual Service Plans, behavior plans/assessments, etc.) designed to enrich the lives of each resident of The Ledges. Furthermore, the Coordinator of Resident Advancement must relay this information to other members of The Ledges' staff, residents' families, and state agencies to ensure the successful implementation of all plans. This position requires a deep understanding of, and commitment to, each resident of The Ledges, and his/her individual strengths to identify appropriate goals for development. 

Thorough training on document expectations and a complete familiarization with The Ledges' residents will be provided.

This is a part-time position (approximately 20 hours/week). Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Specific Duties: 
• Development of Individual Service Plans
• Development of individually tailored goals, objectives, behavior plans, and medication plans
• Completion of resident assessments including but not limited to: safety, community, fall risk, use of machinery, at home well-being, and money management
• Create individual resident profiles including emotional health, communication needs, dietary needs, and social needs
• Responsible for the presentation of ISP information to the family of the residents and appropriate state agencies 
• Track changes in resident's goals, objectives, behavior plans, and ISPs, and properly document progress
• Track the effects of behavioral modifications


• A master's degree in the social sciences or nursing is preferred
• A bachelor's degree in the social sciences or nursing will also be considered.

• At least 3 years experience in the aforementioned duties (writing ISPs, behavior plans, etc.) is ideal
• Prior experience in working with individuals with disabilities

Other skills and requirements:
• High level of computer proficiency, particularly with the Microsoft Office Suite and data retrieval
