A fund managed by the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, A.R.T. was founded in 1996 to assist professional, mid-career New England artists who have a financial need, and to help New England institutions with the exhibition, purchase and commission of work by New England artists. There have been over 150 grants awarded to the outstanding artists and institutions that have participated in a yearly competitive juried application process. As of 2006, the Artist’s Resource Trust has awarded grants totaling over $1 million.
In celebration of A.R.T.'s 10-year and $1 million milestone, the fund has published a comprehensive catalog that honors the artwork of the award winners and the institutional recipients with an accompanying essay by Joseph Thompson, Director of Mass MOCA, among others. The Trustman Gallery’s exhibit of the 25 grant recipients of 2005 represents some of the most distinguished artists working in New England.
The exhibition includes: Karen Aqua, Gail Boyajian, Maria Magdelena Campos-Pons, Juliann Cydylo, Cathleen Daley, Robin Dash, Laura Davidson, Leila Daw, Bryan Nash Gill, Audrey Goldstein, Barbara Grad, Judy Haberl, Timothy Harney, Mary Hart, Howard Johnson, Wade Kramm, Joanne Mattera, Catherine McCarthy, Andrew Mowbray, Richard Raiselis, Shelley Reed, Cristi Rinklin, Rhoda Rosenberg, Jessica Straus and Suara Welitoff.
