David Gullette has several specialties:

• He teaches the big undergraduate Shakespeare course, but from the point of view of a practical theatre person rather than simply as a scholar (he acts semiprofessionally, mostly with the Boston-based Actors' Shakespeare Project). Whenever possible he takes his students to local productions of Shakespeare's plays.
• He teaches, in alternate years, courses on Modern Irish Literature and James Joyce, alert to the irony that Irish writers of the last 100 years have written better in English than the English themselves.
• He is a published poet and essayist, and occasionally teaches courses in Creative Writing and Nonfiction.
• He has written two books about revolutionary poetry in Nicaragua (you can Google his name on abebooks.com), and teaches a course about Nicaragua every Fall, and then takes students to Nicaragua itself, where they live with families in a small Pacific coast town, perform community service, and write intensively about their experiences.
