4 sem. hrs. Prereq.: FREN 245, FREN 246, or consent of the instructor. Not offered in 2012-2014.] Explores the literary representations of Paris and its importance to the development of realism, symbolism, and surrealism. Readings in major authors representing these movements will allow us to study such themes as the city and insurrection, Paris underground, and the emergence of the consumer society.
