Research Interests

The Simmons College Social Cognition (SC^2) Lab conducts research examining the social cognitive aspects of stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination. Our goal is to understand how people perceive others and the world around them--how we form impressions of others and what factors influence our beliefs and attitudes about our social world. Current research topics of interests to the lab include determining the types of features used when forming impressions of others from skin tone to attire, representations and perceptions of women as a function of their race/ethnicity and gender, and obesity stigma, attitudes concerning weight-loss and maintenance and body image.

  • Racial Phenotypicality, Afrocentric, and Skin Tone Biases
  • Obesity Stigma
  • Impression Formation
  • Stereotypic Representations and Perceptions of Black Women
  • Disordered Eating among Women of Color
  • Reactions to Chronic Prejudice and Discrimination
