The major in sociology encourages each student, based on her interests, to develop a creative combination of courses that derives its coherence from the thematic areas offered by the department. Each student majoring in sociology completes 40 credits: the courses in the core, at least three electives and eight semester hours of independent learning. Students work closely with advisors in course selection and planning.

Double Majors

The special areas focus of the curriculum provides and encourages several opportunities for combining a major in sociology with a major in another liberal arts or professional field. Students interested in double majors should consult with a member of the sociology faculty.
