Welcome! If you decide to transfer to Simmons, you won't be alone. Each year, more than 60 students transfer here, attracted by our highly respected academic programs and welcoming, supportive community. As you prepare your Simmons application materials, remember that our admission staff is here to give you the information, advice, and the personal attention you need to make the process go smoothly.
If you are an adult student (24 years of age or older) and wish to transfer credits from another institution, you should apply through the Dix Scholars Program.
Please note: A student is only considered a transfer student if she has earned 17 or more credits in a degree-seeking program. Students who have earned 16 our less credits, in a degree seeking program or not, must apply as a first-year student.
The recommended grade point average (GPA) is a 2.8 for transfer students. You may transfer up to 80 semester hours of credit for courses passed with a grade of C or better at an accredited institution. Additional transfer requirements include:
While not required, we strongly recommend an interview. Talking to you in person is the best way for us to learn about each other and make sure Simmons is the right fit.

In general, we grant credit for any course taken at another accredited institution, provided a comparable course is offered by Simmons. Up to 80 semester hours of credit may be transferred for courses passed with a minimum grade of C or better.
To be eligible for a Simmons undergraduate degree, you must complete at least 48 semester hours of credit (equivalent to three semesters, full-time) at Simmons. The number of credits you transfer to Simmons College will determine your academic standing upon entering Simmons. Grades earned for transfer courses will not be averaged into the Simmons GPA or appear on the Simmons transcript.
For more information, you can download the Transfer of Credit Booklet (PDF)
A transfer credit evaluation (TCE) can help you better understand which of your previously taken courses will transfer into Simmons. Please note that all admitted or waitlisted applicants will receive a transfer credit evaluation shortly after acceptance.
During the application process, students may request a preliminary transfer credit evaluation. Please follow the below guidelines when requesting a preliminary transfer credit evaluation:
Each year, we admit transfer students into our nursing program. Some have completed their nursing prerequisites at another institution, and some complete their nursing prerequisites at Simmons before beginning the nursing sequence, which begins each fall.
