Adjunct Faculty in the Role of Section Instructor

Dr. Maria Hu has been a practicing social worker for 16 years. Dr. Hu currently has her private practice serving adolescents, families, and adults utilizing various evidence-based practices. She is presently serving as a nationally certified trainer and consultant for an evidence-based intervention published by the Rand Corporation, Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS). Within this capacity, she underwent extensive training and certification in Racial Trauma and the adaptation of CBITS, the Bounce Back evidence-based intervention. Dr. Hu's commitment to social justice continues to bless her with the opportunity to work/train clinicians across the country on how to embrace a culturally humble stance as they facilitate dialogues around the significant impact of race-related stress. She is helping school leaders prepare to address issues like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and grief adequately. Dr. Hu was selected to assist in the aftermath of the mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas. Specifically, she is guiding clinicians to learn how to support youth exposed to violence and who show symptoms of PTSD. In addition to her clinical practice experience, Dr. Hu has many years of teaching in higher education, particularly among social work students. She has extensive experience mentoring, training, and providing clinical supervision to students pursuing a degree in social work and clinicians in the field. Dr. Hu has developed and implemented graduate social work courses focused on trauma and resiliency. Overall, she has made significant contributions to enhancing evidence-based interventions to ameliorate outcomes for children, youth, and families impacted by post-traumatic stress disorder.
