Exercise Science Learning Outcomes
- Students will explain/describe the acute and chronic physiological and anatomcal responses and mechanism of each major organ system to exercise in both healthy and diseased populations. Students will be able to identify and analyze current national and global public health problems related to exercise and physical activity.
- Students will interpret epidemiologic data related to exercise and health in the primary literature, generate and interpret experimental data from lab and from the primary literature, utilize and analyze commonly used statistical methods to interpret data.
- Students will accurately take vital signs, conduct exercise risk stratification, select, administer and interpret appropriate exercise capacity tests for aerobic fitness, muscle strength and endurance, flexibility, and neuromotor ability.
- Students will design effective and safe exercise programs to reduce disease risk and to improve cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength and endurance, flexibility and balance for a healthy client and for someone with controlled chronic disease (hypertension, diabetes, osteoporosis, depression, cancer, heart disease, obesity).
- Students will write literature reviews, move a client toward successful behavior change through motivational interviewing, present health information to a lay audience, present technical information to their peers and faculty.
