Often behavior is viewed as something that needs to be managed or extinguished. But what if the professionals working with individuals who present with interfering or challenging behaviors began viewing behavior through a different lens? What if those of us willing to do so, would start to become curious about the function of behavior and be led by the principle that ALL behavior is communication? This approach emphasizes a deeper understanding of the individual’s needs and promotes the development of more compassionate and effective interventions across all disciplines. In this workshop, we explore the principles of traditional behavior analysis while being introduced to the latest brain-based approaches to understanding and supporting behaviors.
Participants will:
- have the opportunities to apply learned strategies to real-life clinical scenarios,
- gain new perspectives on understanding and interpreting behaviors, and
- develop effective clinical supports and goals while examining our roles and responsibilities, values and ethics, teams/teamwork, and communication needed to ensure optimal outcomes for those we work with.
