What is your major and where did you reside before Boston?
I am majoring in Public Relations and Marketing and Communications. I’m from South Hadley, Massachusetts.
Why did you decide to attend Simmons?
What stood out to me about Simmons is the fact you have a close-knit community within the city of Boston. Simmons also appeals to me because it is a women-centered institution. The ability to get involved here, with our plethora of on-campus clubs and organizations, has sold it for me.
What motivated you to become an Orientation Captain?
I had a very unique virtual orientation experience in 2020. I decided to become an Orientation Leader during my sophomore year. It was a step out of my comfort zone to acquaint myself with a whole new group of students. After that experience, I knew that I wanted to increase my commitment, and the orientation team was uplifting and wonderful to me. Being an Orientation Captain is a way to exercise my passion to meet others and produce content. My specific role has been with marketing, design, and signage.
What excites you most about orientation?
This year I’m excited to be on the ground with our team. It almost feels like we are back to normal, after the pandemic. Simmons has a promising future, with many exciting things on the horizon, so I’m excited to share that with incoming students.
Orientation is a student’s first look as to what it’s like to be a student here. We give students their first resources and first friendships, so when they do come to campus in the fall they are prepared to make the most of their experience.
Do you have any advice for first-year students?
Step out of your comfort zone. Orientation is what you make of it. Get involved, and don’t be afraid to try new things because that’s how you learn the most about yourself. This community welcomes you all with open arms.
