It was a late night for many of us, and as widely predicted, we woke up this morning without knowing the results of the presidential election. I know you may find this ambiguity to be both unnerving and worrisome — particularly as it relates to the divisiveness and polarization of our country.
And yet, this is a good time to be reminded of what we stand for as a Simmons community. Regardless of the outcome, we all will continue our work toward advancing an inclusive and just place to learn, teach, work, and lead.
I want to call your attention to a list of information and resources for students, and staff and faculty. This includes Finding Calm & Community — a virtual space open until 5 p.m. today where all can find support in processing the election. In addition, the Counseling Center is offering election-week drop-ins for all community members to discuss the election’s impact on mental health and wellbeing, and to share self-care strategies. These take place on Thursday and Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. The Office of Residential Life is also offering a variety of election-related activities this week.
I encourage you to take advantage of these resources during this uncertain time and focus on your own wellbeing. Please remember that you are a member of a caring community unwavering in its commitment to the core values of equity, inclusion, and social justice. We will continue to support each other in the days and months to come.
