On March 30, the Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Youth hosted its Annual Gayla at the Royal Sonesta in Boston. According to the Mass.gov press release, this event “was a testament to the unwavering commitment of all involved to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for young people of all gender identities and sexual orientations.” This year, Gary Bailey, Professor of Practice and MSW Program Director at the Simmons School of Social Work, won the Lifetime Achievement award.
In his remarks, Bailey acknowledged the “Black and Brown joy” in the room. He also prompted the attendees to reflect on those who oppose, and advocate for, marginalized communities.
