Simmons welcomed new students to campus this week with a series of activities and celebrations.

First Bite Orientation began on Saturday, September 3, with residential first-year and transfer students moving into their residence halls. Students and family members had the opportunity to meet Orientation staff and campus leaders for a Q&A, followed by a family barbeque on the residential quad. Students also met with Residence Life staff, and enjoyed tie dye and bracelet making crafts on the quad.

Sunday included Zumba, meetings with Orientation Leaders, and presentations on Title IX, Wellness at Simmons, and the REEF Support Center. Students attended workshops on budgeting, time management, and living with a roommate, followed by an afternoon treasure (and classroom) hunt on the academic campus. The day closed with a movie night in the Holmes Sports Center pool.

On Monday, students heard a presentation by the Division of Student Engagement, Success, and Diversity, and members of the Student Government Association (SGA) shared their favorite Simmons traditions. In the afternoon, Orientation Leaders guided groups of students to explore the city, followed by dinner at Bartol Hall. First Bite Orientation concluded with the traditional Candle Lighting Ceremony.

This week, students are welcomed back to campus for classes with Shark Week. Festivities include “first day of school” pictures, crafts, cookie decorating, and the President’s Welcome and Picnic on the Academic Quad, September 4. This weekend, students are invited to attend the Colleges of the Fenway Block Party, Karaoke Night at Quadside, and a Muddy River Clean-up on Sunday.
