Ammina Kothari

Dean, Gwen Ifill School of Media, Humanities and Social Sciences

Dr. Ammina Kothari joined Simmons in 2024. Her scholarship has a global reach and includes research on timely issues, including artificial intelligence and its implications for journalism and communication, social media and its impact on mental health, and issues affecting minority communities in the US and around the world. She has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and presented at national and international conferences. Dr. Kothari holds a PhD in mass communication, a master's degree in communication and society, and a bachelor's degree in English and print journalism.

Scholars Emphasize that Women’s Health is Public Health

Shortly before the sixth annual Ifill Forum, an esteemed panel of Simmons scholars from diverse disciplines co-presented “Women’s Health is Public Health.” Dr. Ammina Kothari, Dean of The Gwen Ifill School of Media, Humanities, and Social Sciences, served as the event’s moderator.

Recognizing Freedom of Information Day 2025

According to the American Library Association, Freedom of Information Day (March 16), “promotes the public’s right to know and access to information.” To honor Freedom of Information Day 2025, Simmons News has compiled stories of faculty and student research, University initiatives, and alumnae/i accomplishments published over the last calendar year that advance access, reliability, and inclusivity regarding public information.

Simmons Receives Mellon Grant for Information Literacy

With funding from the Mellon Foundation, Simmons will establish the Center for Information Literacy, which aims to promote informed decision-making and nurture civic participation.

Simmons Hosts “A Conversation of Remembrance” to Honor Gwen Ifill ’77, ’93HD

The Gwen Ifill School of Media, Humanities, and Social Sciences and the Simmons Alumnae/i Association honored the legacy of trailblazing news anchor and journalist Gwen Ifill ’77 ’93HD. Ifill’s brother Dr. Roberto Ifill and her college classmates joined Simmons faculty, current Simmons students, Ifill School Dean Ammina Kothari, and President Lynn Perry Wooten to commemorate this extraordinary alumna.
