Judy Beal

Dean Emerita, School of Sciences and Health Professions

Dr. Judy Beal is the Dean Emerita of the School of Sciences and Health Professions. An engaging teacher, widely published scholar, and frequent public speaker, Dr. Beal has held significant leadership roles at Simmons and in her professional organizations. She pioneered the successful expansion of Simmons' Master of Family Nurse Practitioner program to the online environment and oversaw the impressive growth of that program. She then added the RN-to-MSN and the DNP to Simmons' online portfolio with the school's distance learning partner 2U. She has built strong programs in Nutrition and Physical Therapy—as well as international partnerships in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, and Israel.

Dr. Beal has been a Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellow, and is currently a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and the National Academies of Practice, and the Chair-elect of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. Dr. Beal received her BSN from Skidmore College, her MSN from Yale University, and DNSc from Boston University.

Deborah (Cheetham) Mattheus, MSN, PhD, APRN-Rx, CPNP, FAAN, is the Nancy Atmospera-Walch Endowed Professor in School Health at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Under her leadership, the Hawaii Keiki (child): Healthy and Ready to Learn program has expanded healthcare access to hundreds of K–12 public schools throughout the state.
