Office of Residence Life

The Office of Residence Life is responsible for the administration of — and student life in — the residence halls on campus at Simmons University. We partner with students to create and engage in inclusive, compassionate and authentic communities by challenging and supporting you as you navigate your residential experience. We are excited to help all students create a home at Simmons.

What does Residence Life do?

The Office of Residence Life strives to provide a transformational residential experience defined by a culture of care and inclusivity. We do this by fostering leadership, promoting understanding of diverse backgrounds and lifestyles, encouraging cooperative decision-making, and supporting activities that will allow you to uncover and broaden your interests. Your development is facilitated through the empowerment to solve problems, engage in, and be active within a residential community. We are here to help you build, maintain and enjoy vibrant communities in the residence halls.

We are responsible for maintaining community standards by addressing policy violations in the halls through restorative practices, and the disciplinary process. We also address all roommate conflicts, room changes, room assignments, and housing processes.

Residential Life is many things, but it is not the office responsible for the management of the Residence Hall buildings. Residence Life does not do any of the physical work of maintaining a residence hall such as housekeeping or maintenance. Although we often help students by advocating for them and helping them navigate other offices, if a student is struggling with a maintenance or housekeeping issue, they must contact The Office of Buildings and Grounds directly.
