Break Housing Procedures
The Office of Residence Life can provide housing options for you during University breaks.
Spring Break Housing
As a residential student you may remain on campus for the entire Spring Break as long as you sign-up with the Office of Residence Life by the February 28, 2024 deadline.
- There is no cost associated with the Spring Break stay.
- There are no on-campus dining options during the Spring Break period.
- No overnight guests will be allowed during the Spring Break. All guests must leave campus by 11 pm.

Summer Housing
Summer Housing Eligibility
In order to qualify for Summer Housing, you must be a Simmons student continuing in the upcoming Fall semester, have graduated in the prevous Spring semester, or be sponsored by a Simmons program or faculty member.
As a summer resident you must fall into one of the following categories throughout your stay in summer housing
- participant in a Simmons or COF academic course
- participant in a Simmons sponsored program, i.e., SURPASS, DREAM, etc.
- work in a Simmons University office
You must have your approved reason for requesting (and the category under which qualify) confirmed by the Registrar’s Office, supervisor or program lead. You can move-in on or after the date designated by the Office of Residence Life and must move out of your assignment on the last day of their contract period.
You will be required to meet all scheduled deadlines for application and payment.
Priority for summer housing is given to those who are enrolled in a summer course, including a registered internship, hold an on-campus job, or are part of a special University-sponsored program approved by the Office of Residence Life.
Summer Housing Contracts
Specific contract dates may not span the entirety of the official summer housing dates. Students who are contracted for Fall housing can stay from the end of summer housing to our official move-in days, but it will come at an additional cost. Those not contracted with us for Fall housing will need to move out by the last day of summer housing.
The Summer Housing Application opens during the spring semester. Please read each question carefully, as it could impact your contract dates and overall bill. You are able to review the Summer Housing Contract on your Housing Portal and the link can be found in the Housing Application.

Summer Housing Building
Which building we utilize for Summer Housing is determined by the Office of Conference Services, as they “own” the residential buildings in the summer. Summer Housing will be in North Hall. We will be able to use some of Dix Hall for those folks with specific accommodations, but that is on a first-come, first-served basis based on the eligibility date of the accommodation.
Housing Accommodations for Summer Housing
The Office of Residence Life will honor Housing Accommodations if they are already on file with the Office of Accessibility Services. If you are seeking accommodations ONLY for the summer term, please start the process to register with OAS.

Roommate Requests for Summer Housing
If you are accepted into summer housing you will receive a roommate request form in March. Please note that most of the housing options in North Hall are single rooms. Housing Assignments for summer will be sent to students in early May.
Meal Plans During Summer Housing
There are no meal plans offered for Summer Housing, but your Simmons-sponsored program may provide catering options or a meal plan stipend.
Housing Deposits for Summer Housing
No Housing Deposit is required for summer housing.
Student Billing for Summer Housing
Summer Housing bills are determined by the dates selected in the summer housing application but follow a $35 daily rate structure. Rates are included in the various contract date scenarios. Student Financial Services will release Housing Bills to students in early April with a due date in early May. If the housing charge is applied on or after the due date, it is due within 2 weeks.
Summer Housing for Student Employees
Student Employees who support a revenue-generating unit or who work for a major university operation can get their summer housing compensated. If you are eligible to receive this benefit you will be required to work a minimum of 20 hours a week. You can combine employment to meet this criteria. For example, you can work for the sports center and be an admissions ambassador simultaneously. As a student employee you will not have an option to choose your housing. You will be housed based on housing that is available. If you drop below the required hours or are removed from campus employment, you will be billed for housing unless you submit a Housing Cancellation Request.
Senior Week Participants
Graduating seniors are permitted to stay after the residence halls officially close so that they can take part in Senior Week/Commencement.
If you are a graduating senior who is walking in May and taking final classes over the summer you will not be charged for the first 6 days of summer housing because it overlaps with the extended academic year contract. The academic year contract is extended for graduating seniors. This will result in $210 removed from your overall bill, based on the billing scenarios below. The Summer Housing rate will be applied when those 6 days have passed.
Housing for Commencement Volunteers
Commencement volunteers are permitted to stay after the residence halls officially close so that they can assist with Commencement.
If you are volunteering for commencement and taking classes over the summer will not be charged for the first 6 days of summer housing because it overlaps with the extended academic year contract. The academic year contract is extended for commencement volunteers. This will result in $210 removed from your overall bill, based on the billing scenarios below. The Summer Housing rate will be applied when those 6 days have passed.
